The Tunnel to Nowhere
The Road Tunnel and Freeway were first proposed in the Eddington Report in 2008. No Freeway 4 West Footscray and Brimbank Transport Action Group (BTAG) formed from local residents united to oppose the tunnel and freeway, because the route would go through or near their homes and destroy their suburbs.
The Brumby Government announced the Road Tunnel, but not the Freeway, in their Transport Plan this year.
Local residents weren’t fooled, because we know that the Road Tunnel was a road to nowhere. Sooner or later the Freeway plan would emerge again. And it did. There is no official government public map of the Tunnel and Freeway. We have drawn this map based on the Eddington Report for the Freeway, and details of where people have received letters for potential acquisition of their homes for the Tunnel.
