What Part Of NO Don’t You Understand Mr Brumby!
The No Freeway 4 West Footscray lobby group has joined forces with other concerned residents from across Melbourne to form The Coalition of Transport Action Groups (CTAG). This group strongly opposes the Eddington Report’s recommendations for the construction of tunnels, new freeways and toll roads in the West. One of the group’s leaders Claire O’Sullivan said “…that an acceptable alternative was to spend money on a sustainable public and rail freight transport network in the west, east, central and southern suburbs of Melbourne.”
The No Freeway for West Footscray group hosted a community meeting recently to express their concerns to the Government where over 260 residents attended, Ms O’Sullivan said “…this was just the beginning for our group, if our State Government representatives won’t listen or respond to us, then we need to make more noise and that is exactly what we intend to do on October 26th.” People wanting to have their voice heard by the Government should meet at Flinders Street Station under the clocks on Sunday the 25th of October for a 12noon start.
Lucy ……… one of the founding members of the No Freeway 4 West Footscray group believes that all residents of the west who are concerned about the poor state of public transport, the future of their suburb and the environmental impact of the Eddington Proposal should attend the rally and let the Government know how wrongly they have assessed the people of the West.
“This is about so much more than a potential freeway in our lovely quiet suburb, it is about Government not representing the people who elected them, it is about saying we have had enough of Government spin and we want our voices heard,” exclaimed Anne Parsons a member of the lobby group and a resident who’s house will be greatly impacted upon by the proposal.
