Surely We Deserve To Be Heard
The No Freeway 4 West Footscray Group are certainly making their collective voice heard in West Footscray. Last weekend saw yet another successful effort in raising the community’s awareness of what the Eddington Report Proposal could mean for our local suburb.
The group conducted an awareness raising exercise at Sims Supermarket. Volunteers from the group were busy informing local residents and visitors to the suburb of the potential disastrous impact of this proposal on the local area.
It was great to see people from the many different demographics that our great multicultural suburb hosts working together to try and get their voices heard by the Brumby Government. As the group is a non politically aligned group, funding of literature, banners etc is all self generated. To help fund this project the group hosted a sausage sizzle as they informed residents and got hundreds of signatures on the petition opposing the East West Tunnel and elevated freeway link to the Western Ring Road.
“This is the job that our local State Member of Parliament, Marsha Thomson, should be doing, she should be informing local residents and gaining a sense of their opposition, but she is nowhere to be found, so it is up to us” stated Dianne Rendle a member of the No Freeway 4 West Footscray lobby group. “Marsha Thomson will not even agree to take our concerns to the Roads Minister, what hope to we have of her standing up for what is best for her constituents rather than party solidarity”
Dianne went onto say that…” it was frightening how many residents don’t know about this proposal and are then horrified to hear of the possibility of West Footscray being a suburb under a Freeway, hemmed in by trucks.”
Despite Marsha Thomson’s assurances to residents that all residents in West Footscray received a letter explaining the proposal the No Freeway 4 West Footscray group is yet to find any resident who received one.
